Childhood is involuntarily energetic. Risking it is inherent and so is its short-lived stint. This work, especially the brown earth, as with other pieces in this series, is reminiscent of Gerard Sekoto’s township work.
The unpaved walkways are still visual remanences of older townships and a palpable measure of the systematic effects on the local’s psyche.
This is a lovely moment to live with, the fleetingness of time and the free spontaneity of childhood.
